Aquariums

Just like other UK animal attractions around the UK most aquariums to support wildlife conservation through captive breeding programs and donations to charities. The first public aquarium opened at the London Zoo in 1853 and through advancements in technology they are becoming more diverse in the species held.

The Deep

Located in Hull, The Deep is an award winning aquarium home to 3,500 fish including Europe's only green sawfish, several species of shark, rays and a colony of Gentoo penguins. It is promoted as the world's only submarium.

Living Coasts

Living Coasts is a coastal zoo owned by Paignton Zoo as part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which includes Newquay Zoo. It is a registered charity, and is based around seabirds and other coastal wildlife.

Mull Aquarium

Europe's first catch and release aquarium, the animals are brought to them by creel fishermen, divers and beachgoers and then released back into the wild after 4 weeks in the aquarium. That means that they are able to provide a valuable educational experience without impacting the local marine environment.

Sea Life

Sea Life Centres are a chain of commercial sealife-themed attractions with over 50 aquariums, 2 sanctuaries, and over 180,000 creatures in locations around the world. The chain is owned by the British company, Merlin Entertainments. Sea Life Centres claim to champion the cause of marine conservation through education, awareness and, wherever possible, direct action.
